We believe that every child has a right to family life and Barnardo’s has a successful history of placing children in new adoptive families and foster families.
At Barnardo’s we:
Help keep brothers and sisters together.
Place children with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Find families for black and other ethnic minority children of all ages.
Place older children.
Help to increase choice and reduce delays for children who need families.
As the UK’s leading children’s charity, Barnardo’s believes that by providing the right help, committed support, and belief, even the most vulnerable children can turn their lives around.
We also believe in our foster carers, providing high levels of guidance and support, working as a team to ensure both the needs of the foster parent and child are met.
As a Barnardo’s foster carer you can expect a comprehensive training and support package to ensure your placement is successful for you and the child. You will also receive guidance throughout the process of becoming a foster carer and a fostering allowance to cover the cost of child care.
There’s no such thing as a typical foster carer – they are a diverse group of people who come from many different backgrounds. They do however all have one thing in – the ability to provide a safe, loving, stable home environment to help a child grow and develop.
Putting the child’s interests first is our priority at Barnardo’s – we therefore welcome all applications regardless of race, religion, sexuality or marital status.
We know that the decision to become a foster carer is a big one. Throughout the process of fostering, Barnardo's will be there to support and guide you every step of the way.
Testimonials
We chose Barnardo’s because of the good reputation
We chose Barnardo’s because of the good reputation built over many years and the belief and value placed upon the child as paramount in meeting their needs
I was so proud.
One of the most memorable things for me was when one of our first foster children asked me to give her away. I was so proud.
The rewards outweigh the difficult times
It’s the hardest job you’ll ever do but the rewards outweigh the difficult times. When I hear “I love you, Liz”, it makes it all worthwhile.
Best thing we’ve ever done
Adopting Billy was the best thing we’ve ever done.
The reward is phenomenal
To anyone who is thinking about adopting, I would say go for it. The reward is phenomenal. I will never forget the first time I met our little girl, the first time she called us mummy and daddy, the first time she said I love you.
They’re our mam and dad.
